Fail proof your childcare business in the slower months
Jun 06, 2023Feeling stressed about the slower months in your childcare business? Dreading the summer months when parents decide to pull out their kids from your program….maybe losing sleep over the dunk in sales?
Being prepared can help you take on the slower months like a boss and can help you get past them.
I spent many sleepless nights thinking that I had more days than cash flow at the end of the month. Over time, I learned how to prepare my business and my mindset to take on the more difficult months.
Well, there are some things you can do to prepare and feel more confident.
1. First, you can start an emergency fund where you save money every month so you'll have enough cash flow to overcome the slower months without feeling stressed. You can even set it up to be automatic so you don't have to worry about it.
2. Next, you should know your calendar and when the slower months usually happen. You can ask your clients and staff to mark off their vacation dates on a summer vacation calendar so you know how many kids will be present. Then you can adjust your staff's schedules and expenses accordingly. You can also ask the next child on your list if they want to start sooner if some kids won't be coming back after their holidays.
3. Finally, you can get creative and come up with ways to increase your cash flow. You could hold a book fair or a summer BBQ fundraiser for your community. You could rent out your classroom after hours to specialists offering workshops to kids and families or for weekly meetup groups. You could even have a list of replacement kids that need a spot occasionally.
Remember, being prepared is half the battle when it comes to running a childcare business. It's normal to have ups and downs, but if you're prepared, you can handle the slower months like a boss!
If there’s one thing you can control is your preparation heading into slower months. I
